Discover the Marae of Taputapuatea just a few minutes from your accommodation.
Taputapuātea, on the island of Ra'iātea, lies at the heart of the "Polynesian Triangle", a vast portion of the Pacific Ocean dotted with islands, the last part of the globe to have been populated. The property comprises two forested valleys, part lagoon and coral reef, and a strip of open sea. At the heart of the property is the Taputapuātea marae, a political, ceremonial and funerary center. It is characterized by several marae with very distinct functions. Widespread in Polynesia, marae were spaces linking the world of the living with that of the ancestors and gods. Taputapuātea bears exceptional witness to 1,000 years of Mā'ohi civilization.
